Leatherface Is Back... Yet Again

Well, it appears that another Chainsaw film is in the works. Bloody-Disgusting broke the news days ago, and it was confirmed, that we will now be seeing a franchise wide prequel depicting the events that take place before the events of the Hooper's classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. It's being described as taking place during Leatherface's "teen years". 

It was originally described in a BD exclusive that it would take place in between Hooper's original and the travesty that was Texas Chainsaw 3D, but now it appears that it will be taking place before Hooper's original. Confusing, I know.

I don't know what you guys are thinking about this, but after seeing TC3D, I'm not exactly excited about seeing Leatherface return quite so soon. Especially being that the same folks are still behind it.

PET SEMATARY Script To Be Finalized By Summer's End

According to Dread Central, another writer has stepped up to the plate to take on the screenplay for Stephen King's acclaimed novel Pet Sematary. 

Word of the remake began circulating some time ago, there has been radio silence since then, but now we have some definitive word from Jeff Buhler (The Midnight Meat Train), who has been working on the script with director Juan Carlos Fresnadilla (28 Weeks Later). 

“Paramount had a script from Matt Greenburg and then brought Juan Carlos on, and they were looking to do some work on the script, and then I came in. Juan Carlos and I collaborated on a new outline for the film, Paramount loved our pitch, and I’ve been writing the first draft of the script. It’s very exciting.”

Commenting on the original 1989 horror classic, which was directed by Mary Lambert and based on the novel of the same name by horror legend Stephen King, “The original has a very special place in my heart,” said Buhler. “The film fits perfectly in the time period [in which it was produced], and the source material is one of the Stephen King books that I read as a teenager that made me flip out, and I’ve read it more than once since then. It’s a fantastic book and a fantastic story.”

With the narrative revolving around a family that moves into a new home next to a cemetery with powers that allow the creatures buried in it to come back from the dead, Buhler stated of his approach to the remake, “Now that I’m a father and I have a six-year old and a two-year old, all of the horror within that story that comes from losing a child is suddenly very real and tangible and utterly tragic [to me]. I think the one element that we are trying to bring to this version of Pet Sematary is a sense of truth and honesty in the horror and really take it back to the original material. I think that in the 80’s movie it’s a little campy in places, and we are trying to get away from all of that and really get back to the core of the story, which is that of the family dealing with grief from the loss of their child and the horror of breaking the laws of nature as a result of that. Juan Carlos in particular is very focused on the emotional elements and how they could be represented in a visual context that is compelling.”

“We are being very respectful to the book,” he continued, “and we are not tying ourselves to anything in the first two films at all. We are [also] bringing in some fresh elements that speak to the spirit of the story that aren’t in either one.”

“If you look at the core of it, of what’s going on with the family, it’s an absolutely disturbing story,” Buhler offered. “I think the heart of the story has to do with Louis and his relationship with his kids and grappling with that dilemma when kids ask you what happens when you die and what you believe in. It deals with these big questions in such a personal way, and that is classic Stephen King. They are huge ideas, but they are told through a very identifiable, close-knit family unit, and that’s so powerful so we are just immersing ourselves in that – the loss, the grief, and the horrific results of people making really, really bad decisions.”

As for the tone of the script as it pertains to the eventual film’s intended rating, “I try not to get too hung up on that while writing, especially because this isn’t like a Texas Chainsaw where there’s going to be a lot of ripped open abdomens and people chewing on intestines or anything like that,” he said. “It’s already going to exist somewhere on that line between R and PG-13. If the studio feels like they need to market it as PG-13, then it will be the most hardcore PG-13 movie you could get away with. There are a couple of deaths, but with this one the horror is a little more atmospheric. The big concern of course is that you are killing children, which studios are always loathe to do, but it’s a King story and that’s at the center of it so Paramount knows what they are getting into. There’s no question that kids are gonna die.”

“We’ll be done with the first draft by the end of the summer,” Buhler said of the current status of Pet Sematary, which is being produced for Paramount by Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Mark Varhadian.

“Juan Carlos and I have been working very closely from the beginning so I think the process will be very quick. It’s not going to be one of those situations where there’s a script that the studio likes but then they bring on a director who has a bunch of new ideas and then it goes back into the scripting process for another six months. Because we are doing everything with the director from the beginning, hopefully we won’t be far from where we need to be [with the first draft] when we are done.”

As most of you are well aware of, I am one of the bigger King fans out there. In regards to Mary Lambert's 1989 vision of the source material, I think it's one of the worst things that has ever happened to King's work (and yes, I'm including all those mini-series i.e. The Stand, Stephen King's The Shining, etc.). However, I was excited when this project was first announced, although at the time Alexandre Aja was heavily rumored to take the directors chair. When Fresnadilla was announced as the director, my opinions became impartial, but after reading what Buhler has to say about it, my excitement is back. I think we may actually get a great remake out of this. I don't necesarilly hate remakes, I believe that some films should be remade and Lambert's original is at the top of my list.

THE SHINING Prequel THE OVERLOOK HOTEL Trudges Onward...

As a horror fan, it's hard to report news like this without any bias. You guys know my stance on The Shining, and the place that it holds in my personal life, and as happy as I am to know that this isn't a remake I am still a bit uncertain about the news that The Overlook Hotel, a prequel to Kubrick's masterpiece, is in the works and has secured a director. 

I think that out of all the remakes/reboots/what-have-you that the horror world has seen in the past decade, this will draw some of the heaviest speculation simply because Kubrick's work is regarded as some of the best in the film world, not only the horror world. 

Rumors of this project began circulating sometime ago and it appears that they were more than just rumors. Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo) has laid claim to the directors chair with a draft written by Greg Mazzara (The Walking Dead). James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider Man), Brad Fischer (Zodiac) and Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island) will be producing. In May, Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity) was heavily rumored to have first rights in terms of directing the flick, and in all honesty, I would be much more interested in he were the one helming the project. His use of atmosphere in Gravity was mesmorizing, and while Romanek's One Hour Photo was plenty chilling, that film came out twelve years ago. That's a pretty big gap between major productions, minus the slew of music videos he's directed over the years. 

King's original prologue (which was later cut before the book went to print in '77) stands as the basis for the film, which "will tell the origin story of the Overlook Hotel through the eyes of its first owner, Bob T. Watson. A robber baron at the turn of the 20th century, Watson scaled the remote peaks of the Colorado Rockies to build the grandest resort in America, and a place he and his family would also call home“.

For now, as always, we wait and we see what's going to come of this new project.  No word has come of yet as to whether or not King will be involved, but seeing as this is one of the novels that hit's closest to home for him, I can't imagine that he won't. Hopefully Romanek won't Kubrick him and effectively shut him out of production on this one, as my hope for this project lies in whether or not King is involved. 

Either way, speculation is fun and there is going to be a ton of that going on until we get more details. Will they recreate the same look for the Overlook? Will they use the original source material and film at the Stanley, as King's mid-90's mini-series did, in Estes Park? Will we see Dan Lloyd return for a cameo in this installment? And what about getting backstory from the original? Will we see the massacre of the Grady twins, or the demise of the woman in room 217 (although it will probably remain 237 for continuity's sake)?

Daniel Radcliffe Sprouts HORNS In New Teaser for Alexandre Aja's Latest Horror

I've been looking forward to this one, and it looks like it's finally got a release date (atleast in the UK). I am a huge fan of Alexandre Aja (Haute Tension, The Hills Have Eyes) and being a big fan of the Harry Potter novels, I guess you could say I dig on Radcliffe as well. I've reported on Horns before, but it seems as if that was ages ago, so I return today with the brand new teaser, which happens to look pretty damn good. Directed by Aja and starring Radcliffe, Horns follows a young man “in the aftermath of his girlfriend’s mysterious death, who awakens to strange horns sprouting from his temples.”

The film has a release date of October 31st in the UK, so we should hopefully be seeing it in America at the same time. 

Eli Roth's THE GREEN INFERNO Finally Gets A Trailer!

Eli Roth seems to get a lot of hate in the horror circles, which is something I've never fully understood. I was extremely bummed when he took a hiatus from the genre after the debacle that followed Hostel 2; the guy genuinely loves horror and does everything in his power to deliver solid flicks. So you think that his explicit use of gore makes him less of a film maker? Well, I hate to break it to ya, that's his style, and he does a damn fine job of creating relatable characters to boot. Regardless, I'm not here to start a debate about the merits of Roth's work, I'm here to get all excited in your faces about his next flick: The Green Inferno!

When news first started trickling down the grapevine about this one, I about lost it. One thing that I've loved about Roth is his interesting take on subject matter; the basis of Cabin Fever was really cool (he based it off of a skin infection he got while working on a farm) and Hostel has a pretty interesting back story too, but I don't think I've ever heard of a director doing something like this for a movie. He packed up his equipment, put his cast and crew on a boat and set sails for Peru where he filmed with an actual, native tribe. Take that in for moment, this tribe is not a bunch of actors in make-up, this is a real tribe that has never been filmed before. Awesome.

Directed by Eli Roth and starring Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, Daryl Sabara and Kirby Bliss Blanton, “The Green Inferno follows a group of student activists who from New York City travel to the Amazon to protect a dying tribe, but crash in the jungle and are taken hostage by the very natives they saved.“

HORROR ON TV - ROSEMARY'S BABY Rolls Out Another Promo

A couple weeks ago, NBC rolled out the first promo for their 4 hour miniseries based on Ira Levin's novel, Rosemary's Baby, if you can even calling that. It was a 3 second shot of a baby carriage with the grating sounds of a baby screaming in the background. More annoying than entertaining.

Well today we get an actual promo with real footage! It's not much, but it's something and to be completely honest I felt a bit ripped off with that first promo, especially if that's what NBC decided to deliver for their "miniseries event". You can watch it here, but save your energy for the new one below as it's miles above and beyond the first.






I do love the idea of the miniseries though. Obviously the horror-on-television well is beginning to dry up, as we're moving on to pre-existing properties to fill the small screen (i.e. Scream, Teen Wolf), but I'm all about it if it's going to be approached in the terms of a miniseries. It worked beautifully (in my humble, and not widely accepted, opinion) for Stephen King's The Shining, as it gave the audience an opportunity to see more of the rich and multi-layered backstory presented in the book that was never shown in Kubrick's telling of the Torrance family story. Plus, it helps maintain the integrity of the original story as opposed to updating, changing and chopping in hopes of securing another season. 

Anyway, in getting back to Rosemary's Baby, the new take on the classic horror story “centers on Rosemary Woodhouse (Zoe Saldana), a young wife and would-be mother who, with her husband Guy (Patrick J. Adams), moves into a Paris apartment that has a dark past. After finally getting pregnant, she becomes increasingly suspicious that both her husband and their mysterious neighbors have ulterior motives about the future of her child.”

MR. JONES Teaches You Not To Fuck With His Art

One horror flick that's been making the rounds, having premiered at Tribeca this year, is Karl Mueller's Mr. Jones. I've been seeing people talking about all over the internet, I've watched the trailer a good several times and I must say, I'm excited to see this one.

In what appears to be a mix between Jeepers Creepers and The Blair Witch Project, “Scott (Jon Foster) and Penny (Sarah Jones) just moved to a remote cabin to escape the pressures of the world and breathe new life into their art. But they’ll soon discover they are not alone: an infamously reclusive artist – known only as ‘Mr. Jones’ – lives nearby. He doesn’t like to be disturbed, and only comes out at night when he drags his strange, sinister sculptures deep into the woods. When Scott and Penny’s curiosity leads them too close for Mr. Jones’ comfort, he plunges the young couple into a nightmare world of mayhem, madness and mind-bending terror.”

Jon Foster (Suits), Sarah Jones (Vegas) and Mark Steger (The Pact, I Am Legend) star in the flick from debut director Karl Mueller, who also penned the script. While the flick will be hitting DVD and Blu-ray on May 6th, if you're lucky enough to live in the LA area you'll be able to catch in a theater while on a limited theatrical run starting May 2nd. Heaven knows I'll be there with bells on.

HORROR NEWS: Gene Jones and AJ Bowen Team Up Again In DEMENTIA

One of most anticipated films of this year has to be Ti Wests follow up to 2011's The Innkeepers, the cult based faux-documentary The Sacrament. The flick stars Gene Jones and AJ Bowen, and news broke yesterday that they've both been tapped for Boulderlight Pictures' new flick, Dementia.

Bloody Disgusting reported yesterday that Mike Testin (cinematographer of Contracted) will direct the flick, which has been described as a mix of Misery (yes!) and What Ever Happened to Baby Jane (YES!). Two of my absolute favorites, especially the latter (which seems to get NO love). The film will be about "an elderly war veteran who is forced by his estranged family to hire a live-in nurse after finding out he has been diagnosed with Dementia, only to find that she harbors a sinister secret.”

As already mentioned, Gene Jones (No Country for Old Men) and AJ Bowen (You're Next, The House of the Devil) will star with Kristina Klebe (Rob Zombie's Halloween), Marc Senter (The Lost) and Hassie Harrison in a script penned by Meredith Berg (Blood List).

HORROR NEWS - The Directors of INSIDE and LIVIDE Bring You AMONG THE LIVING

 
As human beings, we are all entitled to make mistakes. They happen, and we shouldn't be shunned for them. Right?

I love, love, love French horror and for some unknown reason, I have yet to look deeper into this film until now. There's a certain way that French directors handle their films, they treat horror as a veritable art form (the way it should be treated everywhere) and it really shows. Even when they do a straight forward, if you can call it that, slasher flick everything is more stylized and much more though provoking than what you would traditionally expect. Case and point: the trailer for Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo's (Inside, Livide) latest film, Among the Living or Aux Yeux des Vivants.

In this Texas Chain Saw Massacre, IT hybrid “Youngsters, Victor, Dan and Tom skip school to wander around an abandoned movie set. They stumble upon a horrific vision : a woman in chains is dragged through the field by a man wearing a clown mask. The masked man catches a glimpse of the boys, who scramble to run away. But, before they can escape, they see something which has been hidden for years, something they were not meant to see. Terrified of having been seen by the masked man, the boys try to alert the police. Unfortunately, their past record of unruly behavior discredits them and the police do not follow up on their tipoff. That night someone breaks into their homes, seeking to eliminate them…one after another… They are going to meet Klarence…”

So this one has been hotly anticipated for what appears to be months and I have been none the wiser until now. I feel stupid. Regardless, enjoy the (now old) sales art from Bloody Disgusting and please indulge in this fantastic trailer. I've already watched it a good 3 times. About to be four. And then probably five.
 

HORROR NEWS: Eli Roth Names His Next Flick As The Home Invasion Horror - KNOCK KNOCK

Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever, Hemlock Grove) is back and it seems that he may just be hotter than ever. After Open Road recently acquired distribution rights to Green Inferno (his homage to Cannibal Holocaust) for a summer release, Eli Roth not only has a hand in Ti West's The Sacrament, but he also just named his next flick. 

Knock Knock tells the story of "two young girls who show up unexpectedly at the home of a married man where they seduce him and wreak havoc on his perfect life."

The script was co-written by Roth, along with Nicolas Lopez and Guillermo Amoeda. He is also co-producing with Colleen Camp (Squirrels to the Nuts). The flick is scheduled to start production in the next couple months. 

Roth has yet to tap into the home invasion market, and while I haven't seen much of his recent work, I am excited about it none-the-less. Roth has shown time and time again that he is first and foremost a horror fan, which in my opinion, is one of the most important and most defining factors of what makes a great director in this genre. 

Things Get Real in the Red Band Trailer for Ti West's THE SACRAMENT

There are very few things in this world that scare me more than religious fanatacism. The things that people are willing to do in the name of their "god", or worse, convince others to do in the name of some deity can go to some dark place that I would normally like to think doesn't exist. Ti West's The Sacrament looks like it will subjecting me to that fear, and more, and I can't wait. 

There's only one thing that gets me any where near as excited as I do for the release of a solid new flick, and that's the release of a red band trailer! Last year's Evil Dead RB trailer was probably the trailer-event of the year, EVERYBODY was freaking out about it, and for good reason. The RB trailer for The Sacrament promises one hell of a ride, and I'll say this much, it looks like I'm going to love it. 

Directed by Ti West, my current horror man-crush, the film stars AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg, Kentucky Audley and Amy Siemetz. It was produced by none other than the man himself, Eli Roth. It's cool to see Eli coming through and paving the way for the next generation of great genre filmmakers, just like Tarantino did for him. I mean, it's good to see Roth back int he game in general, I was devastated when he announced his indefinite retirement from the genre back in 2007 following the extreme censorship and horrid distribution issues with Hostel II.

“The Sacrament follows two Vice media correspondents as they set out to document their friend’s search to find his missing sister. They travel outside of the United States to an undisclosed location where they are welcomed into the world of “Eden Parish,” a self-sustained rural utopia comprised of nearly 200 members. At the centre of this small, religious, socialist community is a mysterious leader known only as “Father.” As their friend reunites with his sister, it becomes apparent to the newcomers that this paradise may not be as it seems. What started as just another documentary shoot soon becomes a race to escape with their lives.”

HORROR NEWS: More Word Trickles Down the IT Grapevine!

More word has come in regarding the eternally rumored revised adaptation of Stephen King's IT. It was announced some time ago that True Detective director Cary Fukunaga (pictured below) would be writing and directing the new adaptation, this time for the big screen. Apparently that's still happening, atleast according to Dan Lin, the film's producer, as he tells us here:

“Cary Fukunaga is writing and directing Stephen King’s It for me, and I’m really excited for that,” explains Lin. “So I’m hoping that’ll be his next movie after the indie he’s shooting in Africa. So I love what he did with True Detective. I think it’s a great sample for Stephen King’s “It.” So I’m really excited about that.”

From what I hear True Detective is a pretty damn decent show as it boasts an extremely impressive 9.4/10 stars on IMDB. That alone makes me want to hunker down for the pilot and see if Fukunaga has the chops to do this film justice.

Stephen King's novel that spawned a million childhood fears of clowns was adapted for the small screen as a 4 part mini-series in 1990, and starred Tim Curry as the eponymous IT, or Pennywise. The story follows 7 children, known as the Loser's Club, who encounter the otherworldly beast and battle for their lives, once in 1958 and again, when it returns to feed in 1985. 

While details are scarce regarding the script yet, it's not even clear as to whether or not Fukunaga has begun writing it, but Bloody Disgusting reports that it will be set in the "present day". Whether that means 1985 present day as in the novel, or 2014 present day, all I know is that I'm hoping and praying it means 1985. I'll be a mite upset if we see Stuttering Bill and Beverly sexting eachother. 

New Stills From Joe Begos' ALMOST HUMAN

On February 21st, Joe Begos' creature feature inspired flick, Almost Human, hits VOD platforms and select theaters and they are gearing up by releasing up a new set of hi-res stills!

I am excited about this one, if for no other reason than simply that it'll be the first in-theater horror flick of the year for me! It's been far too long since I hunkered down to one in a theater, I believe the last one was The Shining on All Hollows Eve. 

In what is being called The Texas Chain Saw Massacre meets The Thing, "Mark Fisher disappeared from his home in a brilliant flash of blue light almost two years ago. His friend Seth Hampton was the last to see him alive. Now a string of grisly, violent murders leads Seth to believe that Mark is back, and something evil is inside of him."

The flick was directed by Joe Begos' and stars Graham Skipper, Vanessa Leigh and Josh Ethier. It is being released by IFC Midnight on February 21st. Dig on those tasty hi-res pics below and take a peek at the trailer if you haven't already!

A Hilarious Pintsize Demon Haunts The Streets of New York In Anticipation for DEVIL'S DUE

In October, Carrie took to the streets for a form of live action advertising that involved an actress getting pissed in a coffee shop and wreaking telekinetic havok when her coffee order gets messed up. Atleast that's what I gathered from it. Either way, I wasn't all that impressed, I thought it was rather silly.

Yesterday, the makers of Devil's Due took to the streets of NYC with a cute 'lil Antichrist in tow and had him greet the friendly tourists and citizens of the great city. What follows is an absolutely hilarious compilation of demonic antics, shocked reactions and yes, even some split pea soup.

Awwww, isn't he so cute? 

 

Devil's Due (2014) - Baby Attack Viral

There are a lot of things to appreciate about this video, from no body questioning a self propelling stroller to the baby flipping off the NYPD, it's just delightful. 

Devil's Due, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett for the Radio Silence team (who collectively brought us 10/31/98, the final segment on V/H/S), stars Allison Miller and Zach Gilford who “After a mysterious, lost night on their honeymoon, a newlywed couple finds themselves dealing with an earlier-than-planned pregnancy. While recording everything for posterity, the husband begins to notice odd behavior in his wife that they initially write off to nerves, but, as the months pass, it becomes evident that the dark changes to her body and mind have a much more sinister origin.”

 The found footage homage to Rosemary's Baby will be in a theater near you this Friday, January 17th. 

IFC Midnight Releases Official Theatrical Trailer for ALMOST HUMAN

AND IT LOOKS AWESOME.

I am very excited for the release of Joe Begos' alien-horror romp, Almost Human. Seemingly heavily influenced by The Thing, Texas Chain Saw Massacre and B rate creature features of the seventies and eighties, Almost Human looks like a good 'ol fashioned blood soaked joyride that any classic horror fan will enjoy.

I first heard about this one several months ago and while it drifted to the back of my mind I was very exicted to see a date AND trailer make the news this morning.

Directed by Joe Begos, Almost Human stars Graham Skipper and Josh Ethier.

“Mark Fisher disappeared from his home in a brilliant flash of blue light almost two years ago. His friend Seth Hampton was the last to see him alive. Now a string of grisly, violent murders leads Seth to believe that Mark is back, and something evil is inside of him.“

Below you'll find the trailer, and two badass posters that I fell in love with the instant I saw them. I just love that classic look. It even has an awesomely classic tagline, which is the kind of thing you just don't find anymore.

Keep an eye out for Almost Human on VOD and in select theaters on February 21st, and as always, I will be keeping all of you posted on any future developments as I hear about them!

Elijah Wood Learns The True Meaning of Stage Fright in GRAND PIANO

I like classical music, Elijah Wood and thrillers, so combining all three should surely make for a great movie for me! Elijah Wood took the horror world by surprise earlier this year when he starred in the brutal remake of the controversial cult classic Maniac, and he's made it very clear that horror is going to be his new forte. The trailer for his latest film, Grand Piano, has hit the internet and I have to say, it looks pretty damn good. 

John Cusack is co-starring, who was pretty damn great in the adaptation of Stephen King's novella 1408. Magnet Releasing is behind distribution, and they have a very impressive horror roster behind their name. They've already released Bad Milo, the V/H/S franchise, Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, The Innkeepers, The ABC's of Death and John Dies at the End and that's just from the past couple years.

Years after a catastrophic performance, he reappears in public for a long awaited concert in Chicago. The Mumblegore Crew Is Back With CHEAP THRILLS

I don't know why I haven't posted about this one before, I've been readin' about it for quite some time, but now that I've seen the trailer I HAVE to post about it.

E.L. Katz (writer: Popskull, Autopsy), is making his directorial debut with the Mumblegore crew and it looks AMAZING. Cheap Thrills, the dark-comedy thriller, stars Pat Healy (The Innkeepers), Sara Paxton (Last House on the Left, The Innkeepers), David Koechner (Anchorman) and Ethan Embry (That Thing You Do!, Vacancy) and is being released by Drafthouse Films. I love you, Alamo Drafthouse.

Craig (Pat Healy) is a struggling family man who loses his low-wage job and is threatened with eviction. In an effort to delay facing the music at home, he heads to a local bar and encounters an old friend (Ethan Embry). The two friends are roped into a round of drinks by a charismatic and obscenely wealthy stranger (David Koechner) along with his mysterious wife (Sara Paxton). The couple engages the two friends in a series of innocent dares in exchange for money over the course of the evening, with each challenge upping the ante in both reward and boundaries. It seems like easy and much needed money, but the couple’s twisted sense of humor pushes just how far Craig and his friend are willing to go for money and cheap thrills.“

It appears to have all the charm, charisma and confidence that I love about a mumblegore flick, and the trailer proudly boasts the You're Next banner in it's opening sequence. I am excited to see EL Katz make his directorial debut, he's a great writer, and if this trailer is any indication, he will make a great director as well.  Check out the trailer below and catch in select theaters March 21st!

Henry Rollins Invades Horror In His Cannibalistic Horror HE NEVER DIED

Horror has become quite popular the world of pop culture, much like comic books have, in that even TV itself has been invaded by an influx of zombies, vampires, killers and demons. Elijah Wood has made it apparent that he wants to set his sights on the horror world (I LOVED him in the remake of Maniac) and now it looks like Henry Rollins is following in his footsteps. 

I am personally not a big fan of Rollins, he seems like an angry, spiteful little man, but I have to say, this looks like it could be pretty tasty. Filming has wrapped on He Never Died, a film in which he not only stars but also serves as Executive Producer. 

In the film, Rollins plays Jack, "a mysterious loner who has lived an inexplicably long life fueled by blood lust and filled with crime and violence. An exceptionally prolonged life has brought depression and detachment. Jack buys stolen blood from a hospital intern, plays bingo, sleeps fourteen hours a day, watches television six hours a day, and lives alone. This is his life – he has shelled himself away from social interactions. The fuse is lit when Jack's past comes back to rattle him. Jack must now walk a tight rope of sobriety and try to eat as few people as possible in this violent tale of personal responsibility and self worth. As it turns out, there are very few reasons to live when you can't die."

The plot reads like he could be a vampire, but it could also go into caniballistic territory. Of the two, I'm hoping for the latter, but we'll have to wait and see! For now, all we have are a few shots of Rollins all bloodied up and looking angry. 

The Tables Turn On Horror's Greatest Icons in SMOTHERED

I don't know if I've covered this on here yet, but if not, here it is and it looks pretty fun! Smothered, from director John Schneider, is an independent horror comedy that features the men behind some of the greatest horror films of all time and it finally has a trailer for us all to indulge in!

While the trailer looks a bit iffy at first in terms of low production quality, it looks like it'll be a fun movie for horror fans to rejoice over. Starring Bill Moseley (Otis in The Devil's Rejects and Chop-Top in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th VII - Jason X), RA Milhailoff (Leatherface in Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III), Don Shanks (Michael Myers in Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers and Ben Willis in I Know What You Did Last Summer) and Malcolm Danare (Moochie Wells in Christine), the film is "a reverse of the classic horror film model.  Instead of a bunch of college aged girls getting slaughtered by men in masks, the film features men of the mask getting slaughtered by a beautiful young vixen."

HORROR ON BLU-RAY: WE ARE WHAT WE ARE Will Deliver The Goods On Blu-Ray And DVD January 7th!

I've been posting about this one for sometime, I am VERY excited about it's release so this news was extra sweet this morning! 

Jim Mickle's acclaimed new "masterpiece", We Are What We Are, is being released on DVD and Blu-Ray freash after the new year on January 7th. A new addition to the family of cannibal horror, this film has been getting rave review after rave review and is widely considered by many to be the best horror film of the year. 

A seemingly wholesome and benevolent family, the Parkers, have always kept to themselves, and for good reason. Behind closed doors, patriarch Frank rules his family with a rigorous ferver, determined to keep his ancestral customs intact at any cost.  As a torrential rainstorm moves into the area, tragedy strikes and his daughters Iris and Rose are forced to assume responsibilities that extend beyond those of a typical family. 

As the unrelenting downpour continues to flood their small town, the local authorities begin to uncover clues that bring them closer to the secret that the Parkers have held closely for so many years.

Michael Parks (Kill Bill, Twin Peaks), Kelly McGillis (Top Gun, Witness, The Innkeepers) and Kassie DePaiva (One Life to Live) all star in this riveting and terrifying remake of the Mexican thriller by the same name.
