HORROR ON BLU-RAY: WE ARE WHAT WE ARE Will Deliver The Goods On Blu-Ray And DVD January 7th!

I've been posting about this one for sometime, I am VERY excited about it's release so this news was extra sweet this morning! 

Jim Mickle's acclaimed new "masterpiece", We Are What We Are, is being released on DVD and Blu-Ray freash after the new year on January 7th. A new addition to the family of cannibal horror, this film has been getting rave review after rave review and is widely considered by many to be the best horror film of the year. 

A seemingly wholesome and benevolent family, the Parkers, have always kept to themselves, and for good reason. Behind closed doors, patriarch Frank rules his family with a rigorous ferver, determined to keep his ancestral customs intact at any cost.  As a torrential rainstorm moves into the area, tragedy strikes and his daughters Iris and Rose are forced to assume responsibilities that extend beyond those of a typical family. 

As the unrelenting downpour continues to flood their small town, the local authorities begin to uncover clues that bring them closer to the secret that the Parkers have held closely for so many years.

Michael Parks (Kill Bill, Twin Peaks), Kelly McGillis (Top Gun, Witness, The Innkeepers) and Kassie DePaiva (One Life to Live) all star in this riveting and terrifying remake of the Mexican thriller by the same name. 


The special features on the DVD/Blu-Ray will include:

- Audio commentary with cast and crew

Justin Long Returns to Horror to Star In Kevin Smith's TUSK

Kevin Smith's fantasy turned reality is getting more and more real as time goes by, and it's taken a huge leap forward by casting Justin Long as the film's pivotal "Frankenstein"ish character. Horror fans may remember Long from Jeepers Creepers and, more recently, the fan favorite Raimi directed Drag Me To Hell.




Smith has already ventured into horror with 2011's Red State but will be taking another stab with his personal homage to Human Centipede titled Tusk. Smith is already in pre-production and casting. In a recent EW interview Smith divulged the plot to the film, as well as broke news that Long had been cast: 

“It’s about a guy who turns another guy into a f–king human walrus. As weird as it is in my head when I talk about it, they finally sent me the costume designs by Robert Kurtzman, and I was like, ‘Holy sh-t, it’s a monster movie, I had no idea.’ I thought I was making a kind of sister thriller to Red State. As soon as I saw the designs, I go, ‘Of course this is a monster movie and he’s Dr. Frankenstein.’ ”

 While Long has been cast as the creation, Dr. Frankenstein too has been cast. Tarantino favorite, Michael Parks (Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, Django Unchained) who previously worked with Smith in Red State will be taking that mantle: 

“It was written for Michael Parks, who I loved in Red State. That was one of the best times I ever had my career, sitting on a set, rolling a camera on a true f–king genius, who is pretending to be somebody else and I forgot who the real guy is because his performance is so good. I wrote the script around him, so it’s nothing but Michael Parks dialogue porn. Justin Long is the guy in the walrus suit. I needed a guy who has expressive eyes because once you’re in that suit, you’re covered. I reached out to Justin and he wrote back and was like, ‘This is awfully scary but how can we not? Let’s fall down this hole.’ So it’ll be Parks versus Long trying to answer the age-old question, ‘Is man indeed a walrus at heart?’"

Smith is obviously very excited about this one, and has gone to say it's a "fucked up movie, dude". 

Filming begins late next month and all you festival junkies can expect to feast your eyes on the walrus monster next year.
